The Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology was an annual multifandom anthology of podfic featuring fanfiction that centers on female characters. It was originally created every year as part of halfamoon, but starting with the seventh edition in 2017, it is now released at the end of February. Every year's anthology is available as a podbook, a ZIP file, and a browsable list of individual podfic MP3s. Starting with the fifth edition in 2015, the podbook was split into two options: a lower-bitrate option with a smaller file size, and a higher-bitrate option with a larger file size.

The idea for the anthology was originally conceived by podklb, and the organizers over the years have been podklb (I-VIII), bessyboo (II-VIII), cantarina (II), and sophinisba (II).

DVDs containing the 2011, 2012, and 2013 anthologies were included in TAMU's Media Fanzine Collection.

First Edition

The first edition was released in 2011. Total run time is 3:49:42.

"A bunch of us in the podfic community wanted to contribute to halfamoon, so we have made an anthology of ficlets from the Awesome Ladies Ficathon. The anthology contains 73 stories, from 41 fandoms, performed by 19 readers. The beautiful cover art was designed by aneas."[1]

Second Edition

The second edition was released in 2012. Total run time is 7:31:12.

"Here is the second edition of Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology! This collection brings together 104 woman-centered stories by 86 different authors and 47 different podficcers in 64 fandoms, for a total running time of a little over seven and a half hours!!!"[2]

The cover art (seen in thumbnail form in the sidebar) is by bessyboo, who notes "Included on this cover are pictures of (nearly) all the awesome ladies the podfics in this anthology are about" and lists them in order.

Third Edition

The third edition was released in 2013. Total run time is 10:34:35.

"Here is the third edition of Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology! This collection brings together 124 woman-centered stories by 88 different authors and 62 different podficcers in 82 fandoms!"[3]

The sixth edition was released in 2016. Total run time is 11:24:13.

"We're back again with the sixth annual Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology! This year, the Anthology consists of 108 woman-centered stories by 74 different authors and 39 different podficcers in 73 fandoms!"[6]






Seventh Edition

The seventh edition was released in 2017. Total run time is 12:45:21. This was also the first year that the anthology had a theme: resistance.

"Year seven and still going strong! This year, the Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology contains 116 stories about female characters written by 90 authors and performed by 43 podficcers, representing 65 fandoms!"[7]




Eighth Edition

The eighth edition was released in 2018. Total runtime is 8:52:38. The 2018 anthology was the second with a theme: awakening.

"Welcome to the eighth annual Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology! This year, the anthology contains 79 stories about female characters written by 70 authors and performed by 30 podficcers, representing 56 fandoms."[8]



Ninth Edition

The ninth edition was released in 2019. The total runtime is 9:27:12. The optional theme of the ninth anthology was laughter.

"Here's the official post for the ninth annual Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology! This year, the anthology contains 97 stories featuring 155 female characters, written by 85 authors and performed by 35 podficcers."[9]

Tenth Edition

The tenth edition was released on February 29, 2020. The anthology had the optional theme of milestones. It contains 99 stories featuring 129 female characters, written by 86 authors and performed by 37 podficcers, with a runtime of 10:44:30. [10]

Eleventh Edition

The eleventh edition has a theme of representation. It contains 128 stories featuring 157 female characters, written by 115 authors and performed by 46 podficcers, for a total runtime of 13:48:16. [11]

Twelfth Edition

The twelfth edition had a theme of exploration. It contains 89 stories featuring 121 female characters, written by 76 authors and performed by 28 podficcers, for a total runtime of 8:12:44. Cover art was created by compassrose. [12]

Thirteenth Edition

On January 19th, 2023, it was announced that this would be the final edition of the anthology.[13] It had the optional theme of transition and contains 105 stories featuring 136 female characters, written by 99 authors and performed by 33 podficcers. It has a total runtime of 11:13:04. Cover art was created by ofthedirewolves. [14]

Fan Reactions and Reviews

“This is not a single fic rec but a rec for eight years’ worth of female-centric podfic. Each anthology is something like 10 hours long and the current one is open for submissions. There’s tons of femslash in here. You’re bound to find something you like.”[15]
