Asterism is a LOONA fanzine and artbook created by various artists to celebrate the group's 2nd anniversary. Each artwork in the zine was inspired by a different LOONA song to show the journey from pre-debut to debut.[2] It was released in 2020.

About

From the Zine's Google Docs:

Asterism is an fanzine made by Orbits all around the world to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of LOOΠΔ. The fanzine will trace their history, from their solo debut to the group debut. All the profits will go to charity. More information about the charity will be given later. Asterism means “a group of stars”, just like LOOΠΔ, who shines like stars together!![2]

The theme of this fanzine, as said above, is the history of LOOΠΔ. Every artist will have to chose one song (see below) and will have to make a piece with the chosen song as a theme. It can be a redrawing of a scene(s) from the M/V or an interpretation that the artist has of the lyrics, for example.

Artists who choose the OT12 songs are asked to draw at least 3 members. As for the songs with a featuring (e.g. Egoist), if the artist can add the member featuring the song, that would be really appreciated!

This fanzine is SFW and it’s not centered around ships, so please avoid making your drawing around ships. Drawings like members hugging, for example, are totally fine! Again, we can discuss about your ideas![2]

History

Development

The twitter account belonging to Asterism first posted on April 24, 2020, asking fans if they were interested in a possible zine, essentially an "interest check".[3] These are common in zines. The theme was decided immediately to be based on the songs, though one of the songs were incorrect and didn't even exist, but this was promptly removed.[4] There were around 39 responses to the interest check.[5]

As a result, the zine decided to open for mod applications and later artists and writers. All artists were selected.[6] To select the songs, artists would fill in a form and choose their top 5 songs, and then the zine organisers would distribute them.[7]

Release

The zine opened for pre-orders on July 22, 2020. There three versions of this zine, named after the units: Asterism YYXY, Asterism OEC, Asterism 1/3, Asterism Yeojin, and finally Asterism OT12. The first 50 releases of the "Asterism OT12" pre-orders received an double-sided keyring. They also hosted a giveaway for one album.[8]
