Some Excerpts
My first fandom was The X-Files, wherein I wrote a few genuinely awful stories and mostly lurked. After that, after a number of distractions, I saw the first few episodes of Supernatural. While they in themselves weren't overly inspiring of enthusiasm, the universe in which they took place was fascinating, full of possibilities and unexplored corners, two against the world, noir lighting, and long late-night drives.
So I stayed. So I kept watching, and writing.
And then the show went on and there were more stories to tell, and several years later, here I am.
Most of the time, I start with a particular image or phrase, something that's gotten stuck in my head and which ends up . . . compelling the rest, kind of. Sometimes the story begins with the image, or leads up to it, or for shorter pieces, it's pretty much the entirety. It's weirdly visual, sometimes -- a lot of stories begin as imagined films or photographs. Most of my ideas come from music, from the mood a song creates or from its lyrics. (Someday I will learn to hear lyrics correctly, and then I imagine I will have a lot fewer stories to write. ;))
