Aries Mū is a character from Saint Seiya. He's the Aries Gold Saint, disciple to Aries Shion and Kiki's master. He is one of the most loved characters by the fanbase due to him being a strong and resourceful ally to the five main characters.
Canon
After becoming the Aries Gold Saint, Mū left the Sanctuary and moved to Jamir (a fictional inhospitalable region located in Tibet) where he took a student. His true nature is not human, but rather from the Muvian race from the continent of Mu. His knowledge on alchemy and smithery makes him the only saint that can repair cloths.
Mu is presented as an ally and mentor from the start. He helps the group of protagonists, giving them advice and repairing their cloths for them. He fled the Sanctuary after suspecting something terrible had happened to his master, who was the Sanctuary's Pope, and couldn't trust them anymore.
Mu fights for Athena in oncoming battles and sacrifices himself along with the rest of the Gold Saints, in front of the Wailing Wall of Hell, to let the heroes enter the Elysian Fields.
He appears in other spin-offs like Episode G or Saintia Sho.
Fandom
When it comes to shipping, the most popular ship for Mu is Shamu, the ship with Virgo Shaka. They are usually shipped together because they both are from South Asia and their techniques are more mental than physical. Aldemu is the second most popular. They are shipped together because they are neighbours and seem to have an amiable relationship in canon.
Common Themes
- Muvian culture: Muvians live much longer than humans, with Shion being still alive after two and a half centuries. Because Mu is also a muvian, fans often explore this in fanworks. It is sometimes compared to an elves in terms of extended life expectancy.
- Aries star sign traits: As Mu is the Gold Saint of the sign of Aries, fans attribute Aries personality traits to him to complement canon information.
