Alter Ego was one of the earliest superhero fanzines, founded in 1961 by Jerry Bails, "focusing on Golden Age and Silver Age comics and creators with articles, interviews and unseen art." The first ten issues were published between 1961 and 1969, with issue #11 following in 1978. It became a formal magazine in 1999.
