Abbott Elementary is a mockumentary sitcom set in a fictional school in Philadelphia. It follows the lives of the teachers at the school during their time at work.
Canon
The show focuses on a small group of teachers – Janine Teagues, Gregory Eddie, Barbara Howard, Melissa Schemmenti, Jacob Hill – as they try to work against the restraints of lack of funding and poor management, the latter particularly from principal Ava Coleman.
Fandom
The show gained a decent number of viewers and fans from the outset, with episodes being discussed while live by fans on Twitter. Screen caps and GIFs were also popular on Twitter and in Tumblr. It was on both the top rated and most viewed shows for 2021-2022 in the US[1] and was on Tumblr Fandometrics in 2022 and 2023.
The fandom on Archive of Our Own is smaller, by comparison, having 835 works as of December 2023. On AO3, the fandom has a majority of F/F works, primarily of the fanon ship between Barbara Howard and Melissa Schemmenti, though there are a number of Original Female Character and Reader-Insert works, too. F/M and Gen are reasonably popular, and F/M works are more popular in social media spaces. M/M is very rare within the fandom, with just 29 works
