A Wrinkle in Time is a 1962 young adult science fantasy novel by Madeleine L'Engle.
It is the first book in the Time Quintet and exists in the same universe as other series by L'Engle.
The novel has scientific and religious themes based on L'Engle's own life and faith.[1]
The book has two official film adaptations, both by Disney: a 2003 television film directed by John Kent Harrison, and a 2018 theatrical film directed by Ava DuVernay.
Canon Overview
Controversies
Both the books and the movies were accused of racism by some readers, due to the fact that there were almost no nonwhite characters. Disney's latest adaptation attempted to modify this view, featuring an interracial family with black characters in the children's roles, but other flaws were presented by viewers. And Disney's lineup (already involved in several racism and whitewashing scandals) has not minimized criticism of the work.[citation needed]
