A Thousand Roses was an activity proposed and planned by a fan named Melissa M.

Melissa M wrote about it in Datazine #44 (October/November 1986). It is unclear if her plan ever got off the ground.

The plan was to have 1000 roses sent to William Shatner during the filming of Star Trek V. Each fan (hopefully a 1000) was to buy a small florist card which represents a rose, send it (and nine dollars for Shatner's fan club, William Shatner Fellowship), along with personal message of undying gratitude. Each day a new card will be displayed by an actual rose in his office. Melissa M had this reminder: "Please remember, everyone, this is going to be on public display. So Do Not Embarrass the Man!!."

Reactions and Reviews

I am very fond of William Shatner myself (the preceding was a deliberate understatement), but honestly, roses? It seems so...wasteful, somehow.Wouldn't it be better and more to the point for everyone to just buy an extra ticket when they go see the movie? Or if we wanted to be helpful, we could send him an aspirin a day. Or something nice to eat. Good luck, anyway. [1]
