A Star Trek Portfolio is an 8-page oversized art collection by S. Fantoni (pen name for Eddie Jones).[1]
Two hundred copies were printed.
It is not the same as the Star Trek Portfolio of the same year by Frank Kelly Freas, depicting the 7 best-known crew members.
Purpose
The eight illustrations were originally commissioned for the German Television Guide, Bild Und Funk. That company used them as title illustrations for a series of stories taken from the books by the late James Blish. The stories were used as build-up to the screening of STAR TREK in Germany, where they retitled the series ENTERPRISE.
Despite its for-profit commercial status, these illustration are closer to fan art than canon. Many fans considered the Blish books to be a bit "off," and some of Fantoni's illustrations diverged even further. Some examples are the take on Sulu as well as the horta.
