A Song of Brothers is a charity zine dedicated to the relationship between Vash the Stampede and Millions Knives, also known as Plantcest, from all incarnations of Trigun.
About
This project aspires to gather content creators who enjoy Plantcest and create a zine for KV lovers of all kinds.
It is an +18 NSFW zine so no minors will be allowed to apply. Anyone caught being dishonest about their true age will be removed.
We are also a pro-fiction zine, meaning that there will be problematic elements included that may or may not be to someone's taste but we have no judgment here.
And this project will be centered around a ship between two brothers (twins), be it romantic, platonic, one-sided, or obsessive.[1]
The project made its first social media post on March 14, 2023[2]. The NSFW zine would be digital, although physical copies would be made for the participating contributors and mod team[3].
Days after its announcement, an interest check was made live[4]. Applications for artists, digital merch artists, and writers opened on April 4, 2023[5]. The project's charity of choice was also announced on this day to be United Plant Savers[6]. After closing applications on April 25th, acceptance and rejection emails were sent out on May 6th[7].
The zine was made freely available with optional donations online through itch.io on September 30, 2023[8]. The zine organizers announced on November 5, 2023, that $950.92 USD was donated to United Plant Savers[9]. This number was later updated to be $1000 USD[10].
Rejected Contributor Incident
On May 7, 2023, JDWrites, a contributor who had been previously accepted onto the project, posted on Twitter a screenshot of an email from the mods terminating their participation on the zine. The email cited that JDWrites had committed "previous transgressions" and "harassed others over racism, specifically antisemitism"[11]. On the same day, the mod team issued the following statement on the project's Twitter account:
Recently, a contributor has been removed from the lineup due to reports of repeated harassment. When the mod team was alereted of their previous actions towards several contributors in the past, we felt that it was in the best interest for the health of the zine to remove the contributor before the announcements were made public.
Our zine is proship/profic friendly. As such, we do not endorse harassment of any sort, for any reason. We want to ensure the comfort of all our contributors. The mod team could not keep this contributor without causing further discord. We appreciate all those that have reached out with their concerns as we strive to make a safe and collaborative environment.
During our application review, we were focused on choosing works that we believed to be strong in quality, but the sample pieces were our main focuse because of the number of applicants we received and not the name associated with them. We apologize for not vetting our contributors more closely and for causing any distress.
In regards to the email.
Poor wording on our part made it sound like were against people calling out antisemitism, which couldn't be further from the truth.
Our problem came from harassment that stemmed from antisemitism in the first place.
As stated, several contributors expressed concerns about having this creator on the zine due to their own experiences.
As such we moved to first alert the contributor, then contributors in our server and now we are finally addressing the public.
Our contributors are to be respected and will be protected.
We do not wish for any parties involved to be targets of harassment. That's not what we're about and never will be.
This will be our last statment on the situation. Thank you for your support and understanding.[12]
The email was likely in reference to JDWrites's contentious "World War Era A/B/O" series, which the contributor has previously garnered criticism for depicting sex with Nazi soldiers and in particularly became relevant when JDWrites had previously participated in online arguments about permitting all kinds of fiction.
