Reactions and Reviews
1989
This story, despite its conventional plot, had some rather nice touches. For instance, I really liked the restoration of the meld by Kirk touching Spock's cock. Martha remembered that Vulcans are touch telepaths. This means that any point of physical contact could potentially create telepathic rapport. This should be particularly true for bondmates. I am definitely pleased by the telepathic aspect of this story. I really liked how this began - showing Scott, Uhura, and McCoy as being as comfortable and relaxed on the Bridge as usual without them understanding why. Spock's refusal to accept as real he and Kirk's loving was plausible since everyone has had dreams that seem remarkably real. I would have felt that Spock's disbelief went on a little too long had she not mentioned Vulcan dreams as being "extraordinarily vivid" - acceptable. [1]
This story set a very nice mood at the beginning, with all the little scenarios and careful descriptions involving Uhura, McCoy, and Scotty. They were real attention grabbers. I also liked all the references to the episodes. Kirk and Spock's initial conversation was also very well done, though I was a little annoyed with Kirk ordering Spock around so much—"Give me your hand", "Stand up", "Sit", etc. I thought this story stretched my belief too long as far as Spock's stubbornness is concerned, though I do always find his insecurities rather endearing. The sex scene went on too long and was somewhat frustrating; yet, they decided to bond way too fast for my taste. If the story would have ended sooner I think it would have had a much more powerful impact. [2]
