Summaries

In 2000, two fans Cassie Ingaben and Dagger compiled an index of many of the circuit stories. They also wrote brief summaries:

Dagger: After the successful completion of an operation, most of CI5's operatives celebrate in a bar. Cowley sits a little apart and observes the interaction between his favorite team.

Reactions and Reviews

"A look at the relationship through a third party's eyes. . . .Cowley!I love being a voyeur and I hope you do too!"[1]

"So, why *is* this piece of writing one of my favourites? I really *hate* the word but in the absence of anything better I’m forced to use it: the author hits one of my ‘kinks’ perfectly, time and time again, and that is, the kink which involves being able to put into words or being able to describe so eloquently, the almost invisible - but very real - chemistry/spark/sexual attraction which exists between these two very attractive men. It’s in the air. Heavy in the atmosphere. Floating around in the pub. The connection between them is so strong that even when they’re apart they’re together, with everything they do and say intended for the other. The term ‘soulmates’ is a bit too corny for me, a bit light, a bit overused, a bit hetero, a bit normal, two people who exist alongside each other but are essentially separate; whereas Bodie and Doyle’s bondedness or connection is more akin to two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle which are essential for each other - each incomplete and meaningless without the other. That’s it, I think I've got it.......... they each have no meaning or reason for being without the other. And it’s this connection which leaves me feeling jealous, wistful, bereft, envious and just half a person compared to either of them."[2]

"Wonderful piece. Short and concise, it didn't need to be any longer to convey the author's intent. Very well done."[3]

"This captures the electricity between them perfectly. I love that the author used Cowley's POV, too ,as I adore seeing the lads through others' eyes."[4]

"A lovely little story, as you say, tautly written so not a word is wasted but with no sense of any need for further explanation or elaboration.

I like the bit where Cowley observes the exchange of looks between the boys and then muses "it wouldn't be too much longer before Bodie joined his partner - he had received his summons." And sure enough, within seconds, "A figure crossed his line of vision. 'That was quick', Cowley thought as Bodie leaned onto the bar next to Doyle."

Cowley's 'voice' seems very authentic to me - this one bears repeated re-reading, thanks for reminding us about it."[5]
