A Picture is Worth 1000 Words was a multifandom fic writing challenge founded and moderated by slodwick. Authors sign up and Slodwick assigns them a picture to use as inspiration for their fic, which must be exactly 1000 words. The annual challenge has been through twelve rounds. Every round since the first has had its own theme.

In 2017, after the LiveJournal TOS update, the community was migrated to Dreamwidth where it drilled until 2019 when updates stopped being made. Currently in May 2022 it is still possible to access both communities in both LJ and DW, but new challenges have not been made.

Round One

The original. One pic per person.

Round Two

Authors were allowed to choose from two pictures instead of one.

Round Three

Authors were given pictures that involved the number 3 in some fashion.

Round Four

Authors chose a season, and received a picture based on that.

Round Five

Author's pictures were based on one of the five elements of Chinese philosophy: earth, water, fire, wood, and metal.

Round Six

Author's pictures were based on a number from 1-6, taken from a random roll of a die.

LJ Comm

The challenge's LJ comm is well organized, with all recent entries tagged according to round number and fandom. It houses challenge entries beginning with the third round.
