As The World Turns is a long-running soap opera [1] on the American television network CBS. It premiered April 2, 1956. The story revolves around the fictional town of Oakdale, Illinois. In December, 2009, CBS announced it was canceling the show, and the final episodes will air in September, 2010.[2]

In 2007, ATWT introduced the first teenaged gay couple in American soap opera history, Luke Snyder (played by Van Hansis) and Noah Mayer (played by Jake Silbermann). In 2010, they made the relationship into a triangle with the introduction of Dr. Reid Oliver (played by Eric Sheffer Stevens).

Fandom

For media fans on places like Livejournal, the fannish focus of the show is centered around Luke/Noah and Luke/Reid. A great deal of fanwork has been created about Luke and Noah (known by the mashup Nuke) and the actors (known as Jansis) as well as Luke and Reid (most commonly referred to as LuRe but also less commonly as Ruke). The introduction of Reid has caused some conflict in the fandom now that there's competition for the main ship.[3] As of October 18, 2010, there were 234 stories on FanFiction.net found searching on "luke noah" and 228 on "luke reid."

The three gay characters are also favorites of the After Elton blog, Gays of Our Lives. The site also posts liveblogging of episodes featuring any of the three.

More general fannish interest is centred around places like the TWOP ATWT board, ATWT at Soapcentral.com and other sites, often devoted to particular couples on the show.

Vids

YouTube is the place to go for vids in the fandom as well as clip sets of favourite couples' or characters' scenes.,[4][5]
