8 Mile is a 2002 movie starring Marshall Mathers/Eminem (Jimmy 'B-Rabbit' Smith), Brittany Murphy (Alex), Kim Basinger (Stephanie Smith) and Mekhi Phifer (David 'Future' Porter). Synopsis from [email protected] on imdb:
B-Rabbit, a wannabe rapper from the wrong side of Detroit's 8 Mile, has problems: he dumps his girlfriend when she tells him she's pregnant; to save money to make a demo tape, he moves into his alcoholic mom's trailer; his job's a dead end, and he's just choked at the local head-to-head rap contest. Things improve when he meets Alex - an aspiring model headed for New York - and a fast-talking pal promises to set up the demo. Then new setbacks: Alex isn't faithful, mom rejects him, rifts surface with his friends, and he's mugged by rivals. Everything hinges on the next rap showdown at the club. Can B-Rabbit pull truth out of his cap?
Fandom
A small fandom sprung up when the movie was released, posting gen, het and slash fics. Many in the fandom also wrote/read Eminem RPF and popslash. Future/B-Rabbit slash[1][2][3][4] was popular, as were character pieces[5][6] and stories about B-Rabbit's relationship with his little sister Lily.[7][8] Embitca wrote two incest stories about Rabbit and his mother Stephanie called Lose Yourself, Archived version and Radiance, Archived version, and ladyjanelly wrote a Boondock Saints crossover pairing Rabbit with Connor.[8] juliabonita wrote an RPF fic slashing Eminem with Mekhi Phifer,[9] who played Rabbit's best friend Future in the film.
