15 Minutes is a One Direction novel by David Bryant which received wide acclaim. After its original online publication, David later published the novel commercially as a trilogy of books, with all references to One Direction removed. The trilogy's titles are The Teenage Christ, The Human Punching Bag, and The Mass Media Martyr.
David described the novel as "controversial" due to it containing gay romance, racial slurs, and frank discussion of religion and other social issues.[1]
Plot summary
A sinister church has risen to international social/political dominance.A teenager starts a protest band that unwittingly becomes the face of a world wide movement against the evil in this church.
As society battles with different ideas of what is good and what is evil, the boys realize that they are more than a band.
Niall see's dead people; Zayn suffers from a possessed hand; Louis has prophetic dreams; Liam is a conflicted member of the church, and Harry may or may not be the new Teenage Christ.
The story is told in a combination of rhyme and prose with original songs written for the work. (Some of these songs have been recorded and given to diehard readers of the book.)
The story has fortune tellers, circus clowns, colorful acrobats, magic talismans, foreshadowing ghosts, talking pigeons, kidnapping, terrorism, romance (both gay and straight), an angel with carved off wings, songs that play backwards, John F. Kennedy, and a mystery that follows the story until the very end.[1]
Name changes
For commercial publication, David changed the real people's names in the novel: Harry became Christopher Cross, Niall became Nile Rivers, Louis became Jack Fitz, Liam became Peter Paint, Zayn became Blaine Byrd, Eleanor became Melody Rich, Simon Cowell became Simon Snow, and the name of the band became The Musicblind.[2]

It deals with politics, homosexual relationships (as many of the characters are gay), religion, social issues, and even the 'N' word. [...] Many people feel this novel contains in appropriate material. Four of the leads are gay characters, one of the leads is a Muslim who is NOT portrayed as a nutty terrorist, there is an open debate on religion and the human condition. All of this is a hard sale for someone who lives in a very small town in the South.
