ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha is the official fan club for fans of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

It began in the UK in 1981 and is now an international club.

It has regular casual "slouches" for members, occasional more formal visits to places of interest (primarily within England), and has run Lazlar Lyricon three times: 1985, 1998 and 2017

The club celebrated it's 42nd birthday in 2023 and continues to publish four Mostly Harmless newsletters annually for members. The 169th issue of Mostly Harmless in October 2023 marked the final print edition, and it continues as a digital-only publication since.

ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha has written permission from Douglas Adams and his agent to call itself "The official Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy Appreciation Society". The club is completely self-run and self-funded.

From a 1990 ad:

ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha; The Hitch—Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Appreciation Society, £5 p.a. for four N/Ls, membership card and badge, plus opportunities for local and national meetings, news, fiction and merchandise service including T-shirts, zines, stickers and cute furry cuddly Beeblebears.
