Yuri Day (百合の日) takes place on June 25th in Japan and celebrates yuri works. The day came to be as Japanese yuri fans noted that June 25th was the assigned day for the lily, which is where yuri (百合 lit. lily) gets its name from. While initially only celebrated in Japanese fandoms by sharing art, fics, cosplay, collages, recommendations and photos of personal yuri collections, it went on to become popular worldwide.

Some of the earliest uses of the Yuri Day tag on Twitter are from 2014,[1] and it began seeing use on Pixiv in 2017.[2][3]

Yuri Day is now often used by publishers to make announcements and have sales for yuri manga, anime and games,[4][5] as well as by mangaka promoting their past and present work.

When sharing personal yuri collections, fans sometimes spell out "百合" or "Yuri" with them, likely thanks to a 2023 tweet by @sanm_ata showing their collection this way,[6] which later gained 15k notes when shared on tumblr.[7]
