The Wraeththu fandom began as a series of novels written by English author Storm Constantine. They begin in 1987 with The Enchantments of Flesh and Spirit published by MacMillan[1] a novel about a post-apocalyptic world where a new androgynous and magical mutant species known as Wraeththu are replacing humanity.
Its author's intense fondness for fanfiction helped this fandom grow in popularity (especially among goths) from its publication and into the early 2000s, initially spawning zines like Entrapments of Passion and Pride and then developing into online communities including the Raythoo [2] LiveJournal community. It reached its peak popularity in the early 2000s and participation has declined.
