The Woody Collective, also known as Woody’s Roundup, is a Tumblr occurrence that often happens to the deactivated blogs of controversial or wanky users.
Woody Collective (also known as Woody’s Roundup) refers to a phenomenon on Tumblr in which deactivated blog URLs of problematic or controversial users are claimed; the blogs are then remade under the persona of Woody, a toy sheriff from the Toy Story franchise.
These blogs claimed by the Woody Collective change the Tumblr avatar picture to that of Woody. The particular image used features a closeup of Woody’s face. Woody’s facial expression shows him with eyes wide open and a strained-looking smile. This phenomenon was noted to have started in June 2017.
EDIT (30 June 2017): It has been brought to our attention that this phenomenon may have started prior to June 2017. However, it seems correct to say that it gained traction in June 2017.
These blogs frequently reblog each other, often repeating the same phrases over and over. It is common for these blogs to use the word “pardner”. Notably, the popular blog memeufacturing has been claimed by the Woody Collective. The blog made its first post on 19 June 2017 with a text post stating, “from ashes and dust i rise!”
It is not clear exactly who is behind the blogs or whether it was started by a single user or a group of users.
UPDATE (30 June 2017): We have discovered that the Woody Collective was started by Tumblr user @snoopingasusualisee (see a post here about this). The user’s bio at the time of writing this update states, “yes i started the woody thing now leave me alone”, so we do not encourage bugging this user about the Woody Collective.
Also, for some reasons that are unclear, some of the claimed blogs seem to have changed their avatar pictures to a picture of SpongeBob. Many users on Tumblr have noticed this phenomenon, some applauding the fact that URLs of problematic users have be claimed by “Woody” blogs, others noting the surreal nature of this occurrence.
Meme Documentation has archived images of the avatar pictures and some screenshots of Woody Collective posts here.
