Women's Murder Club is an American mystery and legal drama based on the books series by James Patterson. The single season focuses on the four main characters from the first few Patterson books. It was cancelled in May 2008.

Canon

The book series and the TV series revolve around a group of women either working in or adjacent to the criminal justice system who come together to use their combined expertise to solve crimes.

The TV series has murder-of-the-week episodic style, as is common with police procedurals, but with an over-arching antagonist in the Kiss-Me-Not-Killer throughout the season. The show only ran for one season.

Main Characters

  • Inspector Lindsay Boxer
  • Deputy District Attorney Jill Bernhardt
  • Dr. Claire Washburn
  • Cindy Thomas

Major Characters

  • Inspector Warren Jacobi
  • Lieutenant Tom Hogan
  • Deputy District Attorney Denise Kwon

Connections to Other Canons

Women's Murder Club is an SGA 6 Degrees fandom because the actor Joe Flanigan, who plays John Sheppard on Stargate Atlantis, was a guest star. Angie Harmon, who plays Jane Rizzoli in Rizzoli & Isles, played Inspector Lindsay Boxer in WMC, a character with many similarities to Rizzoli.

Fandom

Despite the single series run of 13 episodes, a dedicated but small fandom formed around Women's Murder Club. The fandom in many places — such as Livejournal, Fanfiction.net, and AO3 — was very sapphic-focused and much of the fanworks created were either Gen fics or F/F pairing fics. After the show's cancellation, a group of fans collaborated to create additional, text-based, virtual seasons which they released on a schedule and included Women's Murder Club themed "adverts" between chapters. As with the fandom overall, these virtual seasons focused on sapphic interpretations of the characters. They can still be read through the Wayback Machine (linked in Example Fanworks).

As of March 2025, there are 148 works for Women's Murder Club on Archive of Our Own and 121 on Fanfiction.net, with some of those being cross-posted works. However, a number of works from platforms like Livejournal or which were hosted on individual fansites did not get cross-posted to newer archives.
