WoSo is short for women's soccer and is the shorthand term most commonly used for referring to anything relating to women's soccer or football, both in fandom and in more general use.

While there are terms relating to men's soccer/football such as BroSo and MeSo, these are far less commonly used than WoSo. This is probably, in part, due to the history of the game. Men's football has been popular throughout the world, but generally less popular than other sports in the USA. Whereas women's football (or women's soccer) has grown in popularity in the USA since the 1970s, with the US Women's National team seeing considerable success and recognition on an international scale. WoSo almost certainly came out of the fanbase for women's football in the USA, but has now become a widely adopted term, even in countries where the term soccer is not used.

Due to men's football being often considered the "default", in order to find information and fan spaces for the women's game, the short hand of WoSo is often used as a modifier. For example: WoSo Fandom, WoSo journalists, WoSo edits, WoSo communities, and WoSo stories. The tag WoSo itself is typically used in fanspaces and social media like Tumblr or Twitter to help other fans find each other. It is only rarely formatted with the W and S capitalised, however, more often being all lowercase or just the W being capitalised.
