wizardsforbush was a LiveJournal community for Harry Potter fans who supported U.S. President George W. Bush for re-election in 2004. The mod mentioned seeing an ad for a mugglesfordean LiveJournal community as their inspiration for creating wizardsforbush.[1]
In October 2004, during the height of election season, the community had 106 members and 96 watchers.[2] As of April 2023, the community has 167 posts; 1,222 comments; 56 members; and 48 watchers.[3]
wizardsforbush may be best known for being involved in a September 2004 wank that included arguments over gay marriage (not legal in the U.S. at the time), support for George W. Bush (who endorsed a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution to ban gay marriage), and LJ users' friending (and unfriending) policies. The wank was documented in a Fandom_Wank post and later in The Ms.Scribe Story: An Unauthorized Fandom Biography. The argument started elsewhere on LiveJournal, but the relevant discussion in the community itself took place in the comments to this post, How do people manage to be so. freaking. wrong? on September 19, 2004.
