A classic Kirk/Spock vid by Liz to the song "Wild Thing" by The Troggs.

Vidder's Notes

In March 2013, Liz offered the following background on the creation of this vid:

"About making wild thing…. And VHS song vids....

My memory is actually quite hazy about how I did it. I had a double Decker VHS recorder so it was easy to record from one to another, I know that the hardest thing was getting the sound and image to work together and that you had to keep checking the timing was right – then I figured out how to get the sound on FIRST which made it much easier to then put the clips in at the right timing…. I am actually not sure that I did make wild thing with the VCR – I think it might have been an early one I did with a PC…? Only because I remember that I noticed whilst looking for clips that if I watched the fight scene in Amok time in reverse slow motion it looked quite different and I am not sure I was able to do this on VCR but perhaps I did? Certainly the final version of it was on VHS tape not CD. It was quite by accident that I discovered that speed and direction of the film could make scenes appear quite different – there are a couple of scenes which played in reverse or slow motion look like a kiss about to happen...

I certainly enjoyed making vids – I always thought the key to it was to have a good story and to not be too literal about the words of the song! I always made a story board first so I could think about the story that the video might tell – though admittedly some of the them made better sense to me than to anyone else!!"[1]

Reactions and Reviews

This vid is great fun! Did you ever expect to see Kirk and Spock rolling around on the ground doing what you’d like to see them doing? This vid comes the closest to fulfilling that expectation. Who would have thought that if you slow down the fight scene from Amok Time and run it backward, you’d actually see the guys thrusting up against each other? The answer is, evidently Liz did. Very clever. [2]
