WhyIncision was an X-Files Yahoo Groups mailing list that discussed fanfic like book clubs would discuss a novel. Each week, the moderators would select a story or two and, with the authors' approval, the group would respond to daily discussion topics based on the story/stories of the week.

The authors of that week's stories were encouraged to join the list, but asked to refrain from the discussion of their story for the first day to maximize reader participation. After that, authors were free to post whatever comments they liked.
