First of three stories [in this zine] by Willa, and not at all bad, though I liked the other two better. Starts with a long, and rather obvious, dream sequence, but picks up immediately after this with Blake wanting Avon, Avon acting cold and indifferent and only interested in sex, Avon finding he is none of these, and panicking with the usual cruel backlash and messy emotional results...yes, it's been done before. But when it's done well, who cares? [1]
Like quite a few of Willa's fics, this should be at least two fics, possibly more. She just has too many discrete ideas. Lots of them are great, though, let's not beat about the bush. I really, really like this fic, even as I am like - er, why did that just happen? Life is messy, but I prefer my fiction more streamlined. Blake's dream is one fic, the cave fic is one fic, the middle bit with the sex - is really nice sex, and then there's a bit where everyone thinks that maybe Blake raped Avon, which is just thrown in and dismissed quickly. I think a lot of these things are too big to just be part of one massive fic. But as I said before, all the parts are good. Great dialogue. And some convincing Avon crying! [2]
