White Christmas is a ficlet by Sandpipersummer based on Mary Renault's 1953 novel The Charioteer. It is set some indeterminate time after the story, when Laurie and Ralph are sharing a cottage in the country.
In this humorous story, Laurie warns Ralph that the forecast is for snow; but, insisting on the unlikelihood of a white Christmas in England, Ralph sets off to a nearby farm to collect a Christmas tree. As the flakes pile up and the hours pass, Laurie dips deeper into the whisky.
