Where Friendship Takes You is a Jim/Blair story by Tazy.

Reactions and Reviews

This is just a little older than the norm, but I put it here because it’s this author’s only story so it could easily be overlooked. She calls it an AU because she doesn’t believe Jim would behave this way, but I disagree. Fanfic often depicts Jim as rigid, but when I look at the eps many times he initially balks but he’ll yield when he sees the sense in it.

So, this takes place after TSBS and Blair is a cop. He’s been Jim’s official partner for a few weeks. They have been hiking in the mountains when they get involved in a foot chase after a Most Wanted felon. With the help of a feral dog who slows the criminal down, Blair and Jim arrest the sucker. Blair goes in search of the dog, who might be hurt or rabid, and Jim follows along. Blair feels obligated to help the "hero dog" and an unlikely companion they find with her. This slowly developing story is told mostly from Jim’s POV as he watches his good friend and partner and, in doing so, he examines himself and what he might want for their life together.

I have written Tazy to ask if she’s planning to do any more stories. She’s written a few in this and another fandom, but hasn’t posted anything else. I’m hoping that if people read this and give her some feedback, she might be encouraged to post some more.[1]

Summary: This takes place a few weeks after Blair has become a detective. He and Jim are returning from a camping trip and are pulled in to help with a manhunt. They are able to snag the guy, with the help of a feral dog and cat who were living in the woods. The cat ended up being seriously wounded by the bad guy. Blair insists they help the "hero" animals.

Thus begins this long, leisurely story told mostly through Jim's eyes. He examines himself, his life, his partner and what he wants for the future, much of it eye-opening.

Reccer's Notes: This was the first fic I read of Tazy's and among the first stories I recced years ago at Crack Van. I've recced it elsewhere because I find it such a pleasure to read. Enjoy. [2]
