Veronica and Weevil first appeared together in the first episode of the Veronica Mars series. Their relationship was somewhat antagonistic, as Veronica was a fallen '09er (the popular kids) and Weevil was part of a biker gang. However, their rivalry was always tempered by their humor with one another.
In canon, Weevil was often under suspicion, but Veronica was more often on his side than opposing him, and they demonstrated a trust in one another that drove fans to ship them together.
