We Know the Devil is a visual novel by Aevee Bee and Max Schwartz.

Canon

Plot

We Know the Devil focuses on three campers instructed to kill the devil. Choices throughout the game involve deciding which two campers will go accomplish a task together. The rest of the scene will thusly focus on the conversation between the selected characters, leaving the third character out.

Throughout playthroughs, it is revealed that Venus is a closeted trans girl and that all three campers are sapphic.

There are four possible endings. Three possible endings conclude with one girl being left out, taken by the devil, and killed, leaving the other two to mourn the loss together. If the player ensures that all characters spend an equal amount of time together, the option emerges for all three characters to ascend and raze the campground.

  • Venus

Fandom

The game's themes of religious trauma and the closet are very meaningful to a lot of fans.

Venus in particular is a favorite of transgender women in fandom.

it's just such a breath of fresh air having that kinda "trans women are allowed to be in stories about queer women, are allowed to be at the forefront as important and main characters who aren't just trauma, and are allowed to have the same issues as everyone else"[1]

Crossovers with Heaven Will Be Mine, Max Schwartz and Aevee Bee's subsequent visual novel, are common.

Shipping
