We Are Lady Parts is a British sitcom that is created, written, and directed by Nida Manzoor. The show follows punk rock band named Lady Parts, all of the members of whom are Muslim women.

Canon Info

Lady Parts are all-female Muslim punk band from the United Kingdom, who come from different walks of life and different cultures. Although they have their own personal goals and struggles, they are united by their want to propel their band forward and reach success (often citing wanting to enter the mainstream).

Characters

Amina (played by Anjana Vasan): A PhD student the first season and a researcher the second, Amina is a guitarist who reluctantly joins Lady Parts as she has a crush on Ayesha's brother, Ahsan. Lady Parts needs a guitarists and convinces her to join the band in exchange for Ayesha helping them get together. Although Amina has a difficult time fitting in with the band, especially due to her constant worry regarding her reputation amongst the other Muslim sisters in university and her frustration with not finding someone to marry, she finds herself greatly enjoying the release that being in Lady Parts gives her.

Saira (played by Sarah Kameela Impey): As the founder of Lady Parts, Saira is heavily invested in the band, and is the lead singer and rhythm guitar player. She was expelled from university for fighting and, in Season 1, worked in a butcher shop outside of focusing on the band. In Season 2, she attempts to propel the band forward by getting them studio time with a famous producer named Dirty Mehmood, but feels defeated when the band's strategies to raise money aren't enough to afford the studio time. When Lady Parts gets picked up by a professional manager, who has had experience working with a famous singer and Saira's idol, Sister Squire, Saira at first believes that the allotted studio time will push Lady Parts to the top, but soon realizes that the manager was what caused them to lose their original path.

Ayesha (played by Juliette Motamed): The drummer for Lady Parts and sister to Ahsan, Ayesha is often brash and uses music to let out her emotions. She works as an Uber driver. In the second season, Ayesha begins to date a non-Muslim girl, Laura, and Laura's parents are incredibly supportive of them. This causes Ayesha to feel conflict within herself about why she has not come out to her parents about dating another girl.

Bisma (played by Faith Omole): The bass player for Lady Parts, Bisma is happily married with a daughter, and sells her hand-drawn artwork at markets. Bisma has felt at conflict with wearing the hijab and being black, due to the importance of hair in Black culture. She has also struggled with her identity as a mother at times, as she loves her children but doesn't want to always be seen as a mother figure.

Momtaz (played by Lucie Shorthouse): The manager for Lady Part's and Saira's best friend, Momtaz has a lot of experience with sales and marketing, and uses her skills with social media to help create an image for the brand and get them new opportunities under the company name of 'Momtaz Records.' In Season 2, Momtaz is hurt when Saira goes with a professional manager for the group, but also understands that it was the only option left to get funding for the group. She then starts a successful youth club that promotes musicians of all cultures, and lets Lady Parts perform there.
