We Are Fairy Tail is an ensemble Anime Story Music Video about the members of the guild Fairy Tail. It uses sound from the series, subtitling, and several visual effects to create dramatic tension. The ASMV acts as an introduction to both Fairy Tail and to Black Stars Ztudio, which Loosecontroi co-leads[1].
Technical Specs
This AMV was made using Sony Vegas Pro 10 and Adobe After Effects CS5.[2] It uses the song Abeyance by Mark Petrie and various lines from the series itself. Loosecontroi indicated it took 35+ hours over 25 days to make.[2]
Story
Loosecontroi said, "In this AMV I was focusing on what it means to be a Fairy Tail wizard and the relations between the members."[2]
"We Are Fairy Tail" begins with Master Makarov's lecture to Gajeel Redfox after the Phantom Lord arc. As Makarov asks Gajeel questions about his choices in life, images of Fairy Tail members during times of great crisis and determination appear one-by-one on the screen. Loosecontroi subtitled all audible lines from the series; the English translation given in this section is:
"What does being a wizard mean to you? What does the guild mean to you? I'm asking what do you, yourself, think about who you are? Would you have taken people's lives if your master had ordered you to? Are you that unquestioning? You see, that's no different than being a puppet. There are people in this world who prefer solitude. But there is no one who can withstand it."[3]
After a beat of darkness and silence, the music picks up, and we see Natsu Dragneel's denial of the funeral in the Rakuen Tower arc. Then Natsu himself narrates (from his denouncement of Hughes during the Edolas arc) as Fairy Tail members prepare to defend themselves and each other.
The third section includes many crowd shots and deliberate camera shake, as Lucy, Happy, Gray, Natsu, Cana, Gajeel, Gildarts, and Erza all contribute brief narration. Other effects in this part include color shifts, blurring, and TV static. Most of the shots are fight scenes or the preludes to fight scenes.
Happy narrates the penultimate section with this defiance in the Edolas arc, in which he shouts, "We are not puppets! We are... Fairy Tail Wizards!!!"[3] As he does so, the faces of yet more members of the guild flash quickly one after another.
The final section post-credits is narrated by Cana from her moment facing Mavis, in which she says, "I... love this guild."[3] The images are from the Fairy Tail parade, as Laxus looks back on the entire guild bidding him farewell.
The last twenty seconds are an advertisement for Black Stars Ztudio, including the names of the members at the time and a subscription link.
Reception
In its first nine months, "We Are Fairy Tail" received 575,000 views and over 10,000 likes, as well as 7 pages of comments.[3] By March 2014, a little over 2 years after it was posted, it had 1.2 million hits, over 18,000 likes, and over 3,500 comments.[3] Unlike the usual maxim to "never read the comments," the comments for this AMV are overwhelmingly positive.
