W.I.T.C.H. is an Italian fantasy comic series that later got adapted into a French-American animated series.
Canon
Like the comic, the show follows five girls: Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin who have magical powers which they use to fulfill their duties as "Guardians of the Veil". The names of these five characters form the titular acronym, despite the characters not actually being witches. The series is set in the fictional city of Heatherfield and various mythical planets, namely Meridian and Zamballa.[1]
Reception
The TV show has been met with generally positive feedback. Today many people look back at it as an exemplar of fun and good TV shows from the 2000's, people praising the smooth plot and the well developed characters and world. The animation is also considered nice to look at, with the uplifting messages and theming consistent in the show giving it an positive tone. Criticisms for the show are far between but might be most prominent when discussing the inconsistent lip-syncing of the characters[2].
