Reactions and Reviews: Issue 18

19pp, foolscap, duplicated newsletter of the Michael Keating fan club. As usual, it's packed full of reading; reviews of "Are You Lonesome Tonight" - the play in which Martin Shaw of Professionals fame plays Elvis Presley in apparently a believable and moving performance, which is still running (until May according to my last information), and of "Phoenix", a transcript of a radio interview with Michael, plus acute filksong. Worth it for MK fans.[1]

Reactions and Reviews: Issue 39

Loved Rose's story as always. She's inexhaustible! Only one LoC where are they all?

Jackie Willmott's anxiety about "that word." Whilst I am not so offended about it as she is, I can never understand why anyone uses the word anyway for swearing as it sounds so downright silly it is so unorigrinal. If you want to swear, why not use something colourful, artistic, suitable and, for heaven's sake, interesting? You'd think actors would be more original, especially if they are likely to get on to a sacred blooper tape. So full marks to Jackie for her protest and black marks to all the offending actors on this one for being darn boring with their language when they make a mistake. I begin to wonder if the blooper reel is worth seeing if all it contains is a string of unoriginal saxon expressions. [2]

  2. ^ from a letter in "Vilaworld" #40, likely referencing the actor's use of the word "fuck."
