Ushicon is a Japanese pop culture convention held originally in Austin but currently in Round Rock just north of Austin proper.

Artist Alley from 2020

It was originally held from 2002 to 2006 until ceasing operations due to changes in anime fandom and facility issues.

In 2007, a related event "Ushiko's Anime Block Party" was held January 26–28. Attending this event was free of charge.[1]

"Chibi Ushicon" was held in Round Rock from January 29-31 of 2010. Attendance was limited to the first 500 signups, age 18 and over only.[2]

Ushicon resumed standard con operations in 2011, continuing this 18-and-older policy in order to promote "maturity and respect" among the attendees.[3]

The word "ushi" is Japanese for "cow/cattle", and thus Ushicon's mascot is a cow-girl named Ushiko. For several years, the program book was titled "Cow Prints".

Instead of a cosplay contest, Ushicon has a "Cosplay Showcase", where participants get to show off their costumes and tell which part they're particular proud of, without the pressure of competing.
