Robin Anne Reid
I was an sf/fantasy fan from childhood (Oz, The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek), but my first participation in organized fandom was Star Trek. I was a member of Outpost 13 of the Puget Sound Star Trekkers in Bellingham, Washington during the late 1970s. I then became a member of APA-5 under the fan pseud "Robin Rede" (participating on and off until 1992). I left fandom for some years when I began writing a dissertation, but returned to online Lord of the Rings fandom in March 2003. I write Fictional People Slash (FPS) and Real People Slash (RPS) in that fandom.
I am a professor of Literature and Languages at Texas A&M University-Commerce. The university was an independent teacher's college for over 100 years before joining the A&M system. My teaching areas are creative writing, new media, and critical theory (primarily intersectional feminism, gender, queer, and sociolinguistic theories). My publications include work on feminist science fiction, fan studies, and The Lord of the Rings (the novel and the film).
I began teaching all my classes, graduate and undergraduate, online in August 2006 primarily because of my participation in LiveJournal! I am interested in integrating wikis into my courses and could think of no better (or fun!) way to learn about wikis than volunteering for Fanlore.
I serve on the Board of Transformative Works and Cultures, the peer-reviewed academic journal of the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW): Journal Site.
