The Marauders fandom is usually viewed by Harry Potter fans at large as separate from "us". They're not fans of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, they're fans of a playboy who loves playing pranks and dates every breathing human being he possibly can, and a chocolate-obsessed orphan who loves books. The fandom they created is pretty impressive, there is no denying that, though it'd be more so if they didn't bully the Marauders fans who don't agree with the OCs they made using names from the books.Reddit comment by RationalDeception[1]
Marauders fandom has always been very fanon heavy, it's based on a single short flashback and some recollections and heavy extrapolation from characters who are canonically ~15 years distant from that era. So when the stuff people made up back in the day starts to feel a bit stale, why not just move on to making up new stuff? People can have their preferences, but I think it's a bit pointless to complain about the new fanon just because it isn't the old fanon.Reddit comment by distraction_pie[2]
