I am a reader of fanfic, novels, lyric poetry, epic poetry, personal essays and academic essays; a writer of lyric poetry, and academic essays when in school; a mezzo-soprano in training; a sometime rower, out of training; a Starbucks addict, who enjoys everything from lattes & cappuccinos to peppermint mochas to espresso & regular coffee, black or with milk; mainlining green tea with soy milk of late, as well as being generally fond of bubble tea and tisanes; a sometime student, currently taking a year off to see how the other side lives; subject to the whims of two cats with black fur, golden eyes and enormous neuroses, named Aurora and Lailee; a perpetrator of impeccable but idiosyncratic grammar & punctuation; & am currently aged 19 and 1/12.
Mi, a name I call myself
In French, a dolique à l’oeil noir is a black-eyed pea, or chick pea. It’s a beautiful word, I think, and evokes a smallness after which I yearn, a roundness which I was approaching when I chose the name, and a greenness—strangeness—which I have long had; also the dusky, doe-eyed fascination of the homophonous odalisque.
