Untamed is a zine project dedicated to the creatures and primals of Final Fantasy XIV.

About

Tour the vast regions of Final Fantasy XIV, witness the behaviors of its iconic creatures, & discover the hidden lives of primals. The UNTAMED safari welcomes you.[1]

The project was announced on October 16, 2020[2]. Interest checks opened from October 16 to November 2, 2020[3]. As soon as interest checks ended, contributors opened and would run until November 23, 2020[4].

The project hosted an art contest starting January 31, 2021. Artists were encouraged to submit artwork of creatures from the game for the prize of a free copy of the zine, with free shipping[5]. Winning artwork would also be featured in the zine. The winner of the contest was declared to be Twitter artists WhiteCatArts[6]. The winner of the contest's lottery was Twitter artist kouriimei[7].

Preorders opened on April 16, 2021 with the following pricing tiers[8]:

  • Digital Bundle ($15 USD) - Digital Zine
  • Normal Bundle ($30 USD) - Physical Zine, Triple Triad Cards
  • Ex Bundle ($45 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Random Sticker Sheet, Random Postcard, Random Triple Triad Cards, Random Art Print, Random Acrylic Charm
  • Fate Bundle ($55 USD) - Acrylic Charms, Enamel Pin, Sticker Sheets, Posters, Prints, Acrylic Standee, Triple Triad Cards
  • Savage Bundle ($79 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Acrylic Charms, Enamel Pin, Posters, Prints, Sticker Sheets, Acrylic Standee, Triple Triad Cards

Stretch goals included a bookmark at 100 orders, a postcard print at 200 orders, a large print at 300 orders, and washi tape at 400 orders[9]. Preorders were expended to end May 21, 2021, but were extended to June 4, 2021[10]. A new stretch goal of holographic triple triad cards was unlocked on June 4, 2021[11].

During preorders, the project ran a givewaway of felt craft models of a Googbue and a Paissa designed by ModestMonsterZ as well as a free EX bundle[12]. The winners of the felt models giveaway were Twitter users KimchiBlossom and SerenSkippidity[13][14]. The winner of the EX Bundle giveaway was Twitter user Happy_Go_Boom[15].

Orders began on the Tuesday after a shipping update on January 16, 2022[16]. On January 19, 2022, the project announced that orders would also be receiving two extra gold foiled Triple Trial Cards and additional emotes[17].

The project opened aftersales on April 15, 2022[18]. A new giveaway for an EX Bundle ran from April 19 to May 20, 2022[19] The winner of this giveaway was announced to be Twitter user howlingway_[20]. Aftersales closed on May 24, 2022[21].

The project was declared complete on June 14, 2022[22]. On July 23, 2022, the project's organizers announced that they were working on a second volume of the zine[23].
