This is one of the stories inspired by Susan Foster's 'Dark Sentinel/Guide' series. Arnaa has come up with the idea of the very rare 'Shield' - someone who is a third partner with a dark sentinel and guide, the one person either will trust with the safety of the other. Arnaa has taken a new look at the whole concept of sentinels and guides. There is some mysticism as well as misunderstandings and miscommunication, all combining to make a cracking good story that is about people learning to overcome these problems as they get to know each other.[1]
I remember reading this story a couple of years ago, and I like it, even though I think Naomi and Alex are essentially original characters, since I think they are way out of character.I like the way Jim handles drawing Blair out of his shell.[2]
