Unbury your gays describes a canon scenario in which a queer character that was killed off is revealed to not have been dead after all. It is the antithesis to Bury Your Gays.
One example is in the Black Sails fandom, used to incentivize viewership of the show with a promise that not only does it avoid the bury your gays trope, but subverts it entirely.
It is also a term used to challenge the Bury Your Gays trope in media. For example, an episode of the podcast Buffering the Vampire Slayer entitled Unbury Your Gays focuses on the canon death of Tara McClay; how her death fulfilled the Bury Your Gays trope and how this impacted fans of the character.[1]
