Two Two One Bravo Baker is one of the most read stories in the fandom. Yet, I feel like it still deserves to be recommended once more.To be honest, it was more of a love at second sight in my case. When I first entered the fandom, I was less enthusiastic about Johnlock, and due to that, I only skimmed over the first two chapters. Which is ridiculous, because the writing is too good to pass it up. Whether you like the pairing or not. The relationship itself is quite similar to the one in Performance in a Leading Role. Both characters are rather comfortable with their bodies, and due to that, the drama is created from without rather than from within.
It will make you fall in love with a fictional version of Afghanistan - with the beautiful horizon, the danger, the dust in every breath you take. Basically, this story introduces you to John’s perspective, to his inner representation of Afghanistan. as such, it is a work of art.[1]
This is a very long fic and a classic of the Johnlock fandom. It has lots of graphic sex, which starts very early, and plenty of military action with a significant case plotine. There’s nice, intense emotion between John and Sherlock and some angst as they try to survive . Highly recommended. First kiss, first time, explicit , military!kink, BAMF!john[2]
Finally finished this one! When I started, I saw “novel-length pornographic case-fiction” and honestly, I didn’t think it’d be my cup of tea. Of course, I had to read it–it’s got to be a rule in this fandom, right? But seriously, this piece of work is so incredible. It’s so so well-written, interesting, sexy, funny, heartbreaking…Just about everything you can think of. Normally, I wouldn’t be into the idea that Sherlock and John are having sex so much, because it’s not how I see them. But in this particular piece, I get it. The circumstances, the emotions, the location, blah blah blah. It fits in the situation. I wasn’t expecting to cry when I read this. But I did. Specifically Ch. 14. Plus tearing up at other parts. There were so many lovely moments and I thought my heart would explode from the sweetness and intensity of it. Oh and I forgot to mention that both John and Sherlock are totally bad ass in this. Totally. Honestly, you just have to read this. It took me a few hours total, spaced out over a few days–I’m a fast reader. Doesn’t matter how long it takes you though. Make the time to read it if you haven’t already. It’s brilliant.[3]
Awesome war-time romance AU. John is a soldier in the war in Afghanistan. Mycroft asks Sherlock to fly in and solve the mystery of some suspicious political murders. Plot, love, sizzling sex, and fabulous research found in this![4]
There is a sense of finality and awe as I type this review. 100k+ words, and I’ve just gone through it in just under five hours. The intensity. I can’t describe it. Honestly, my only regret about this one is not slowing down and taking more time to enjoy it (I read a lot of fanfic; now, I rec it. So, 100k+ ones take some preparation to delve into). This was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I honestly don’t even know what to do with myself right now. This author has legitimately created an entire verse. If you haven’t read this, I’m not joking, drop everything and read it now. The detail of it is astounding. This author has done his/her homework. The subtlety of the plot is unbelievable. Everything from the plot twists to the small, recurring little things (like John’s “Let’s roll”, things like that) was beautifully plotted and thought-out.[5]
