Turnabout Cinema is a for-profit Ace Attorney zine that celebrates the popcorn-munching, pearl-clutching courtroom drama in the form of feature film posters![1]

On September 9, 2021, spearmintail posted a Twitter poll as a soft interest check for an Ace Attorney zine in which each case is represented by a movie poster, to which a majority of voters voted "yay!"[2]. The project's social media account then launched its interest check on Setember 20 to October 16, 2021[3]. The project reported over 440 reponses[4]. Contributor applications from from November 1 to November 30, 2021[5].

Preorders opened May 1, 2022 with the following pricing tiers[6]:

  • General Admission Bundle ($28 USD) - Digital Zine, Physical Zine
  • Reserved Seating Bundle ($40 USD) - Random Miles or Phoenix Charm, Choice of DGS Playbill, 2 Random Die-cut Stickers, A6 Sticker Sheet, Physical Zine, Digital Zine
  • Concessions Bundle ($50 USD) - Bookmark, Both Miles and Phoenix Charms, 2 DGS Double-sided Playbills, All Die-cut Stickers, A6 Sticker Sheet, All Merch Stretch Goals
  • Advanced Screening Bundle ($55 USD) - Bookmark, Miles or Phoenix Charm of Choice, 2 DGS Double-sided Playbills, All Die-cut Stickers, Physical Zine, Digital Zine, 3 Stretch Goals

Initial stretch goals included extra ticket stub stickers at 50 orders, a VIP pass and lanyard at 100 orders, a new acrylic charm at 150 orders, and a hardcover upgrade to the physical zine at 200 orders[7]. Once all these goals were reached by early May, new stretch goals were added, including a behind-the-scenes PDF at 225 orders, three additional prints of posters from the zine at 250 orders, and an enamel pin at 300 orders[8].

A giveaway was run from May 18 to May 19, 2022, for a full bundle including all stetch goals[9]. The winner was announced to be zerograviting on May 30, 2022 [10]. Preorders ended on June 1, 2022.

Orders began shipping out on October 17, 2022[11]. Digital copies of the zine were sent out by November 2, 2022[12]. By November 10, 2022, all orders were shipped out[13]. Leftover sales began on November 30 and ended on December 15, 2022[14]. After all orders were shipped and other internal matters were finalized, the project was declared complete by the mod team on January 24, 2023[15].

My @TurnaboutCinema copy came in and I’m in LOVE! The visual/creative direction for this zine really shines through, giving every work a moment in the spotlight. A read through the book feels fulfilling and cohesive- like completing a collection. I am so SO happy i got this zine!

And perhaps it’s premature to say it, but I feel as though there has never been nor will ever BE such a perfect homage to the Ace Attorney series. And frankly, if yall haven’t gotten one yet, you had better, or you’ll live to regret it.

Even if there comes a day that Capcom makes some collectors edition book of all it’s games, it wont have that same personal touch to it. This was made by fans for fans and that passion is precisely what makes it entirely untouchable. This is truly a gem of the fandom 💖[21]
