Turnabout Century is a general zine made in commemoration of The Great Ace Attorney duology from Ace Attorney games.

About

“Turnabout Century” is a fan-made collaboration between over 60 talented artists, creative writers and merch-makers to commemorate the localisation of the beloved Ace Attorney duology, “The Great Ace Attorney: Chronicles”, also known as "Dai Gyakuten Saiban". This premiere anthology fan project is an extravagant celebration spanning two games and two empires, created by passionate fans, for other fans and the greater audience to enjoy!

The fanbook will be SFW and contain spoilers for the entirety of both games![1]

Interest checks opened on July 27 and ended on August 27, 2021[2]. The announcement revealed that 40 contributors were invited to participate and create original art of the characters from the duology. The interest check closed with a total of 702 responses, a majority of which strongly desired a physical and digital copy of the zine as well as merchandise bundles[3].

The project revealed its preorder date on January 28, 2022, with a trailer by bumblingbeebo and music by zebby. Preorders would open on February 5, 2022[4]. On opening day, the zine was sold at the following pricing tiers[5]:

  • Blossoming Attorney's Bookshelf ($40 USD) - Physical Zine, 2 Postcards, Sticker Sheet, Preorder Bonus Origami Sheet
  • Prosecutor's Portmanteau ($60 USD) - Physical Zine, 4 Postcards, Sticker Sheet, 2 Wooden Pins, Preorder Bonus Origami Sheets,
  • Turnabout Spectacular ($80 USD) - Physical Zine, 4 Postcards, Sticker Sheet, 2 Wooden Pins, 3 Wooden Charms, Wooden Standee, Digital Bundle, Preorder Bonus Origami Sheets

Digital purchases included the Clover Suite Collection, a companion digital document documentating the zine's creation, and Prelude to a Century, a rearrangement of the games' soundtrack by zebby for the promotional trailer[6].

Stretch goals included a roll of washi tape at 100 sales for higher tier bundles, an acrylic charm at 200 orders, an enamel pin at 300 sales, gold foil treatment to the physical zine's cover at 400 sales, and a deluxe upgrade at an unspecified number of orders[7]. The type of cover upgrade was decided by Twitter poll, to which followers and buyers voted overwhelming for a casewrap hardcover[8]. This final goal was finally reached on March 11, 2022[9].

To alleviate international shipping costs, the project promoted group orders for multiple countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, China, and the United States, since the majority of the zine's team was based in Australia[10]. A giveaway was run from March 12 to the final day of preorders for one full bundle[11]. The winner of the giveaway was announced to be Twitter user ShockingNess[12].

When preorders closed on March 20, 2022, the zine's team reported that over 1900 sales were made[13]. As thanks, all physical orders would include a free bonus print of one of the promotional art pieces used for the project.

Production updates would be conducted primarily through an email newsletter. Physical orders began shipping out in approximately September 2022. Digital copies were sent out on January 11, 2023[14].

The zine's online store reopened to sell off leftover stock and digital copies beginning on Janary 25, 2023[15]. Leftover sales ended on February 5, 2023, and the zine was declared completed shortly after[16].
