A truesona is a persona which is designed to closely resemble it's creator, usually physically, but may include realistic aspects of it's creator's personality as well. While it can be used to refer to any persona that realistically represents it's creator, it is most often used in the furry fandom to refer to a fursona that resembles it's creator. Though used as early as 2012, the wider truesona movement from the late 2010s was started as a body positivity movement on Twitter.

It's a body positivity thing where you draw your fursona with your exact body type and defining features like scars, stretch marks, etc. to make it look more like yourself!
History
While truesona received it's first entry in Urban Dictionary on Oct 21, 2021, it's earliest usage may have been on Furaffinity, 2012. The earliest piece of artwork from Furaffinity referencing truesonas is "Truesona Clothing Designs ~ XiaoMao Mashe ~ Celyn" by KitaraSoftpaw, posted on April 26, 2012.[2] However, truesona was not used very frequently on Furaffinity around this time, as searches for the usage of truesona on Furaffinity reveal very few instances of it between 2012-2018. Usage picks up in 2019.
On DeviantART, the first instance of truesona is from Mar 15, 2016, referenced in a journal entry by Sew3r-Gat0r. The journal entry includes a questionnaire meme created by Sew3r-Gat0r in which one of the questions is "Do you have an OC or more? If so, list your favorite/fursona/truesona," equating truesona to fursona.[3]
It's earliest usage on Twitter in reference to a persona which resembles it's creator may come from user SeasideDoe, on Mar 26, 2017.[4] However, truesona does not show major usage on Twitter until 2019. It was popularized by a post made by f__ern on Dec 2, 2019, with the original tweet quoted below.[5] f__ern's truesona, which was attached as a photo to the tweet, was a fursona.
