Reactions and Reviews
A pacy story with an original premise - Travis as the Deltan chief of security on the Aquatar Project, Blake as the lover who is attempting to radicalise Travis, Avon watching jealously from the sidelines. The twists and turns of the plot lead to a denouement where nobody wins and an evocative last paragraph': 'Roj Blake lay back on the bed in his quarters [on Liberator.] No one would ever know how much he remembered.' [1]
A rare PWB Blake/Travis! Alas that it is so boring - and it's boring because Blake is presented as almost braindead (even before he gets brainwashed). I don't get much sense that Travis is actually into him, and he seems to sleep with Avon (after Travis had ditched him) just ... because Avon wants him and sex feels good (like he's a flower child or something). I do think there is a good premise here - Travis betrayed by Blake (tormented by the idea that Blake might never have been truly into him/only using him for his connections), Avon jealous of another dark-haired man creepily obsessed with Blake, Blake just trying to run a god-damn revolution ... but this fic is not a good version of this idea. Avon does something terrible for no real reason, as well.[2]
