Free, open discussion or random friendly chat was known as "rapping" in the 1960s. The word was apparently short for "rapport" and was originally Afro-American slang, probably used by jazz musicians. It was subsequently picked up by beatniks and then hippies, and moved from there, along with groovy, dig, split and other such terms, into the general population. Rastafarians call this practice "reasoning", especially when used to discuss religious subjects.
Trekrapping, obviously, is the practice of rapping about Star Trek.
