Todoroki Shoto x Yaoyorozu Momo is a Boku no Hero Academia pairings.

Background

TodoMomo's most major moment happened during the Final Exams Arc, during which Todoroki and Momo were paired up to fight against their teacher, Aizawa. When Todoroki was tied up and Momo was panicking about the possibility of failing, Todoroki restored her self-confidence by saying that the reason she had two votes for class representative was because he had voted for her, as he felt she would do a better job at it than him.

Despite this pivotal moment in Momo's character arc, much of TodoMomo's other moments are considered to be "crumbs" by fans. This term is not meant to be ungrateful, instead merely commenting on their incredibly minor status.

Fanon and Tropes

It is common to see TodoMomo grouped together with KamiJirou, as many fans enjoy the canonical friendship between Momo and Jirou.

In the early days of the pairing's life, it was also common to see Kacchako appear alongside Todomomo in fics and fanart, with fans drawing parallels between Todoroki's respect for Momo (shown through the "I voted for you" line) and Bakugou's respect for Ochako (shown in his treatment of her when they fought during the Sports Festival Arc); however, grouping TodoMomo with Kacchako soon waned as the TodoMomo shippers who rose to popularity in 2018-2019 typically preferred IzuOcha.

Early TodoMomo fanon was often angsty, with a common headcanon at the start of 2018 being that, due to her quirk being unable to create living things, Momo was infertile, and as a result, the two could not have children. Despite this, it eventually became more common to give them fanchildren, with four Tumblr users, littleroundpumpkin, selephi, kitanoko, and hazel0217 often collaborating on works featuring their three TodoMomo fankids. The idea was then further popularized by ionica01 on AO3, who had previously gained prominence in the community for writing Dial & Error over the course of 2018, with the fic But Tomorrow We Love, a Parent AU published over the course of 2019 and 2021 spanning 30 chapters and over 160,000 words.

Fluff was, and continues to be, the predominant genre of TodoMomo fic starting around mid-2018. The headcanon that TodoMomo were Disney fans became common, and a love of "wholesome" portrayals of the couple arose in the general community.

Meta, Discussion, and Popularity

TodoMomo began its life as a rare het pairing within the My Hero Academia fandom, although it has since come to enjoy a level of popularity within het shipper social spheres.

It is frequently tagged in AO3 fics as "Minor", "Background", or "One-sided" to the point where notable shipper TeaPlease1717 created the TodoMomo Collection on AO3 in the summer of 2020 for the express purpose of having one place for fics which focused on TodoMomo endgame. It was actively maintained, with the raw Todoroki Shouto/Yaoyorozu Momo tag on AO3 regularly combed, from its conception to some point in 2022, after which point the only fics that were added came from recs sent to the major Todomomo Discord server or shippers who were already previously aware of its existence, usually through the aforementioned Discord server.

TodoMomo shippers typically had beef with TodoDeku shippers, who often found TodoMomo to be bland or "too perfect". This criticism became more common around 2019 as the fanon surrounding the pair began to focus more on the "wholesome" and fluffy side of things, with a number of rival shippers specifically singling out its sheer saccharinity.
