To Do List is a Sentinel story by Aubrey Robin.

"The Sentinel, gen, all ages, ~9,700 words, July 26, 1999, What happened between the shoot-out and the job offer in "The Sentinel by Blair Sandburg.""

It has a sequel by Veronica called To Do List, Too.

Reactions and Reviews

This was really good. Resolution, worked at. I liked this also because, unlike many other Blair-as-cop stories, we actually have a Jim who does consider, and is willing to resign, in order to be with Blair. That doesn't turn out to be necessary, but I feel relieved that it was considered. This story won the 2000 Cascade Times Awards in the "smarm" category, and was nominated in the "missing scene" category.[1]

I love this story. One of the few non-slash stories I've read(whether it's gen, smarm or preslash is in the eye of the beholder), and one I read over and over again, this is a wonderful gap filler for anyone who ever wanted to know exactly how Blair got offered the badge in TSbyBs. And yes there is a slash sequel.[2]

Yet another 'Blair decides to leave after TS by BS'. This time, Jim finds out in time to stop him.

What can I say? I'm a total sucker for well-written post-TSbyBS fics and this is one of the best. Jim is less of an asshole than in canon (in fact, the author mentions that she wrote this fic to help redeem his character), Simon calls everyone out for their stupid behavior, and Blair manages to stay just on the right side of the martyr line. Add some really wonderful angst and the boys finally talking to each other and you have a great post-series fic that manages to be powerful without being melodramatic. A wonderful story.

Note: I'm including a link to the sequel, written by Veronica. It didn't do much for me (too short, I think), but for those who are interested it's a quiet coda to the original fic with a smidgeon of non-explicit smut.[3]

A missing scene from The Sentinel by Blair Sandburg. I love this story. For the way the author writes Jim. This is the Jim I see and love. The scene at the U with the Chancellor is priceless Just a few lines but so terribly good. After six years, it's still on my top 5 of Gen stories. The very strong friendship between these two men is the core of this story. It still blows me away.[4]

Aubrey's stories are post-TSbyBS and while I still have a hard time seeing Blair as a cop (I'm in denial), her stories almost make me believe it. "To Do List" is the first of her stories as Blair prepares to remake his life after giving up his academic life, using a list of things to do. Jim, however, sees the list and makes some changes to it, not wanting to lose his partner. An excellent piece with Jim and Blair extremely well-written. Don't miss this author. Her stories are simply perfect.[5]

In this story, Aubrey Robin has given readers a touching insight into the emotions both Blair and Jim were feeling in the aftermath of the press conference. Touched with drama and humor, this story is well written and provides a look into the hearts of both men. It's definitely one of my favorites![6]
