Reactions and Reviews
Donna did a good job coming up with this story, and writing it. (Those are two different things, you know.) Anyone can think up a good story, but it takes talent to write it well, and Donna has that talent. She kept the story succinct and yet involving. The characters were handled well, as was their relationships to each other. Her original character was realistic and quite spooky. Hey, she was a genius (and I could tell you stories about the genius at my high school--He once walked up and bit me on the shoulder for no apparent reason). These people are strange. I like the bit (another show of good writing) where Julian and Dax are throwing out quotations about genius. Great use of the title and tie in with the plot there. I also like that Donna likes Julian (I like any author that likes Julian!) and writes him with respect while also keeping with his characterization as presented on the show. Good job, Donna. I look foward to more stories from this author. [1]
I love everything Ysone's written, and I recommend all her stories. This particular story, Tincture of Madness, reads like it could be a real DS9 episode. The characters are great, the plot is realistic (for Star Trek, anyway), and the writing is very engaging. The story does focus on Bashir, but everyone plays a role. [2]
